The Animal Nanny Est. 1994.

"...I was born with the animal gene."

Hello my name is Deb, thank you for visiting our website. I am the owner of The Animal Nanny, and as you may have guessed - I am of Native American and Irish decent. I grew up in Santa Barbara, Ca. and was mesmerized from the first, with the vision of beautiful Palomino's in their silver-conchoed saddles. It's all been an animal romance from there.

1992, allowed me to live and work on location for Brooks Haven for Wildlife in the Santa Ynez Valley, my home. Having a special interest in endangered species, we took on many challenges there, with the support of Animal Behaviorist, Wildlife Specialists, Veterinary, Rescue Facilities, to only mention a few. Let's not forget Ca. Dept. of Fish and Game. While there I learned... the information and education "are out there" but be prepared to lose some sleep.

Two years later I relocated to Oregon and began work for the Klamath Tribes. While there I facilitated an Animal Nanny-on site program for Mare Care at my home. Seemed like more boarding than babies - but..1 week of new-born worries always cleared that slate.

In my 47 years, Animals have always been my "drug of choice". I began residing in Yuba County in 2002 and have taken a total of 20-some days off and away from my own animals and clients during that time. As you know, when you got critters - you aren't goin' far. I have hundreds - through clients, and I love them all as if they were my own.

My Philosophy is this: (This is what I know)

Do no harm.
An animal is never more stressed than when it awaits to hear the footsteps of its master. Routine, routine, routine. Not only dogs, but any animal that has ever been turned around by genuine care, and kindness. We are separate species and should be careful of each other. Yet, if we listen and watch close enough the language is there and the level of worry will be communicated. The histories of animals do not shake me. There is nothing that I need so strongly that would push an animal into defensiveness. I come in with a watchful respect and somehow the barriers of language are broken. Food, water and kindness are not much to ask.

- I wouldn't pet a person without asking, why in Creator's name would I crowd the personal space of another living being?

Respect,
Patience,
Genuine kindness,
Reliability,
Compassion.

To be sensitive to every situation - that is the task.

Deb
